WiserEarth

View Paul Hawkins Blessed Unrest presentation video and the origins of the WiserEarth Social Network platform. WiserEarth provides the tools and a platform for non-profit organizations, funders, social entrepreneurs, students, organizers, academics, activists, scientists, and citizens to connect, collaborate, share resources and build alliances. WiserEarth is the first of three projects to be launched under WISER (World Index for Social and Environmental Responsibility): WiserEarth will be followed by WiserBusiness and WiserGovernment respectively. Another WISER offshoot currently in development is the WiserCommons project.

WiserEarth links organizations and people in new ways. WiserEarth's structured data format combined with its comprehensive taxonomy makes it the most advanced search tool available in the environmental and social justice fields. WiserEarth encourages social entrepreneurs, students, scientists, consultants and volunteers to construct personal profiles that will create opportunity and visibility for them, while providing organizations a broader pool of prospective talent. WiserEarth provides grassroots groups that do not have a web presence visibility and access. WiserEarth provides funders a comprehensive landscape of organizations engaged in specific program activities. Academics, students, politicians, and the media can better visualize the extent and comprehensiveness of global civil society. WiserEarth acts as a low-cost communication network for all organizations through the publishing and encouragement of voice-over-internet-protocol hook-ups (e.g. SKYPE). WiserEarth will generate geographic maps to locate individual organizations, or any collection of organizations, from street to continent level. WiserEarth will be viewable in multilingual interfaces so that information can be entered and understood in users' native languages. WiserEarth offers free postings for recruiting staff, volunteers, and interns and will offer a marketplace to share surplus resources and materials.
