The SChemNet home page is under construction. We are working to have this page available for the June 20th event. The following document contains the Home Page development specifications. We appreciate your early participation in this initiative and will review all suggestions and comments as we build this community network and collaborative workspace.

Home Page for the Sustainable Chemistry Network (SChemNet) Channel
June 14, 2005
A dedicated URL will be established for this channel so early users will enter directly into the SChemNet Home Page and channel filtered content. This will avoid overwhelming early users with the broader SKN content and more complex navigation.
This home page will initially consist of the following portlet functions/content:
· Welcome dialogue: Text for new visitors that quickly introduces the channel and its intended major uses. This would be the middle page column space similar to current SKN home page.
· Keep quote of the day: Keep same portlet as SKN Home page. Upper left page location. This would be the first of 3 portlets in the left column of the page. Occasionally the quote may be substituted with a user poll or survey at some time in the future.
· Sustainable Chemistry News: Middle of left column three portlets. (Same as SKN news only filtered to be channel specific news.)
· Who’s Who in Sustainable Chemistry: Lower left column (3rd of 3 column portlets) This function includes building a template for creating these articles. At a minimum we should have a picture of the person featured, some interesting statistics (analogous to a baseball card) or quote, a brief background/bio summary section and an “interview” section. The initial 2 or 3 write-ups that can be inserted as documents. The page view is only a “preview” view that could be clicked to get to the actual Who’s Who article. After the article or preview we could have a link to an archive of other Who’s Who profiles and a list of the SChemNet community members.
· SChemNet Events: First of 4 portlet in third column would be for events. Same as SKN home page only filtered for channel specific events.
· Second of 4 portlets in right column would be for user favorites, “most active” discussions or featured “project/case” link.
· Book Review or General “Reviews”: 3rd of 4 right column portlets. This would be like other book review portlets. SKN has an amazon.com vendor account and we can link directly to Amazon and facilitate users ability to buy the book.
· SChemNet Stakeholder Organizations Portlet Preview with click to a list of the Channel Specific Stakeholder Organizations. These will be folders to start with, but eventually should be some combination of graphics, Intro/abstract text and link to full text or organization’s website. Located in lower right page portlet.
