SChemNet: Project Page Development Specifications

The SChemNet project page is under construction. We are working to have this page available for the June 20th event. The following document contains the Project Page development specifications. We appreciate your early participation in this initiative and will review all suggestions and comments as we build this community network and collaborative workspace.

Project Workspace “example” Page

June 14, 2005

Initially this would be simple.  Some kind of preformatted project specific portlets that link project content with a list of team members, project specific blogs, relevant discussion forums, training, news and library references.  May develop initial project example pages as general use cases with pre-defined series of tasks or workflows.  We will explore this option as we write some example use cases and gain a better understanding of the project workspace functions and page development process.

The Project page example, a template that could be used for multiple projects, can initially consist of the following portlet functions/content:

·        Welcome dialogue for new project team members and project visitors that quickly introduces the project.  This would be for public viewing and would list the Project owner to contact for more information etc.  This would be the middle page column space similar to home pages welcome text.

·        Project blogs preview portlet.  Upper left page location.  Maybe the PM’s project blog is the persistent preview with a link to other team members and their project blogs.  This would be the first of 3 portlets in the left column of the page.

·        Project references library and news content links portlet.  Middle of left column three portlets. (Replaces channel specific news portlet.)

·        Analogous Project Cases and Tools link portlet.  Initial “Tools” could be sample documents that the new project would be expected to develop.  Diagnostic questions that project teams could review to check their efforts etc.  Lower left column (3rd of 3 column portlets)

·        Upper right of 3rd page column would be a link to the project specific documents.  At a minimum each project should anticipate a Plan, Progress meeting notes, deliverables and reports.

·        Key project metrics portlet.  Middle right column.  Could highlight selected items such as schedule, budget, but eventually should include sustainability outcome metrics that align with a projects stated objectives.

·        Project Members and their representative Stakeholder Organizations Portlet Preview with click to a list of the team member bios, project roles, contact information and Project Specific Stakeholder Organization links.
