Follow-up from the Land of the Long Song

by William G. Russell — last modified Apr 10, 2007 07:18 AM

Copy of group email from Glen Lauder. See some new Kiwi members for our community and note on the Digitial Earth Conference in June.

Doug, and my best-for-the-world community.

Hello from the Land of the Long Song. What a week that week was. Carl and I have been home for nearly a week, him back in Auckland and myself in Wellington. We seem never to have left, though - we have been in touch with Doug nearly daily, and with Scott, and by email to a few of you. But I thought a collective "hello" would be good to reconnect and keep the bonds strong.

What an honor to have met you all! New Zealand is always an open option for your learning journey's - pause to consider it a "done deal" that you will end up here some day, and you should know that there will be a warm welcome. This is a good email to contact me on - a good way to prompt me where we met is to include "SoL Atlanta Youth" in the subject line, because we meet a lot of people and never want to lose you in the crowd!

I have included in the email above, Billy Matheson, Felicity Lawrence, Sarah Wilson and Ben Irving's emails. These are kiwis who are in conversation with Carl and I to co-create the journey of young New Zealanders (that includes me, by the way) to San Fran for the Digital Earth Conference in June. There is a parallel youth event which Carl is building with Doug and others. You are invited - and. Carl or Doug will be in touch with details. So you know who the others are - Billy is creating a youth gathering in early May in NZ which will generate a treasure (taonga) to bring to the US, Ben is an extraordinary youth leader in NZ and will co-facilitate with me, Sarah is a wonderful adventure coach who will help design the adventure of the June gathering, and Felicity is co-leads the New Zealand department of conservation; and will be with us,

I know that over the next months and years we will have a chance to meet again. The old world of six degrees of separation is shrinking to two degrees. we can never be far apart. Know that we think of you all, every day.

Haere mai. Ka kite (we shall see one another again on the journey).
